Need help on Crestiner TS 182 windshield….

    Hi all,
This could only happen to me. I just bought this boat and brought it home on Sat. The boat has one of those walk thru windshields vs. the sport shields you normally see. I thought I covered all my bases when I measured available garage space. However, I never measured HEIGHT !! When I got it home, I realized I was about 2″ short.

After setting the new world record for cuss words, I proceeded to take off the windshield. Now I am wondering what to do? I would just like to convert to those sporty shields, but don’t know how much or where to go for them. Also, do you think a marina would take mine in on a partial trade?

Any advise and/or sympathy is appreciated

You have my sympathy. You won’t get much advise from me other than to call Destry at La Cannes in Faribault 507-334-6415 he might be able to help you.

I am a bit confused, as I do not know what the walkthru shield is (I did not know of this as an option) . I have a 2001 TS182 with the dual console set-up (I ordered and installed the port-side after I purchased the boat). What is the walkthru v the sport shield? My consoles each have a separate plexi shield. I have to constantly remind my boys and passengers to not use them as a rail, because they do not support any weight.

For my console (and any other parts), I just had the dealer order them. The console came unassembled in a box, along with the shield, and I took it up north and assembled it in the boat. Not that tough. The shield has three points of connection to the console. The front/leading edge is just a clip that holds down the front thru a hole in the plexi, and the two furthest back bottom edges of the shiled have a connector to the top of the console that fits into a hole and locks with a half-turn.

Don’t know if it is possible or likely, but I might be interested in yours if they would fit my boat. My garage problem is a length problem, not a height problem. My boat is outside under a cover during the season and goes into storage for the winter.

Ernie – think Crestliner Sportfish or Lund Fisherman for windshield design. The plastic gizzmos that you have are what I am thinking of going to. I just don’t want to spend an arm and leg. Alternatively, if there was a way to shave 3″ off the glass so that it sat lower, that is another option.

    nubbinbuck,

Had a friend with the same problem. What he did was deflate the tires each time he put the boat away. The nearly flat tires gave him that 2 inches he needed. Then, when he used the boat, he simply inflated the tires back up after pulling the boat back into the driveway.

Yes, he did have to go out and get an air compressor, but not a bad tool to have around anyway.

Another thing you may want to take a real close look at is the roller settings on the trailer. There may be room for a downward adjustment.

    Just an idea…

I thought of mentioning the tires, but I didnt think that anyone would want to hassel with it. How good does the boat roll on flat tires???

Also-how many times do you go before forgeting? Or better yet, how many beers before it slips your mind????

I would cut a hole in the garage

    Dave,
Better yet, how about I store it at your house….

You could store it at my house. If you stop over and it’s not there, that means I took it out to get it cleaned. I usually clean on weekends and sometimes the lines at the wash and vacuum are so looong. If the gas was topped off when you put it away and it seems a little low when you pick it up, be sure to call Crestliner about the problem. I have heard they know about it and haven’t been able to track the problem yet. Let me know if I can help you out.

Better yet-spend a couple of hundred and leave it at Watergate on Pool 2. That way I can use it on my lunch hour!

If the garage door is not coming up all the way, then there is a kit (I have one on my door) that a door man can install to make the door come way up to give you more clearance. It added about 2 inches of height for me.

Also, maybe you could get smaller diameter (but wider) wheels/tires that have the same load range.

Another quick fix to keep the garage door open all the way is to put a block of wood between the bottom of the door and the top of the wall when the door is open.

My door jam is the problem, not the door. Anyone know what to expect for pricing on windshields?

Talked to the local dealer, and each one is about $200. The entire console, with the shields was about $350.

Thanks for the info, ernie. Looks like I just get some bugs in the teeth for awhile.. he he.

Maybe I can just go get some low-profile tires like the kids are running on the civics, accords, etc. That would probably give me enough wiggle-room….
