Great Motor……depending on what boat I would say 2.5 or you could add a bucket or sock and get under 2 maybe.
The experts will post soon.
Welcome to IDA.
Great motor trolled my 18.5 ft G3 2.3 to 2.7 depending on conditoins it is really a solid motor
Of all the motors I have had, and there have been many…the Yamaha 150 4 stroke was my favorite. For a lot of reasons. MPG, performance, light weight, reliability, speed and ease of maintanance.

Here is another post full of info on Yamaha
Every thing you wanted to know about Yamaha but were afaid to ask
What people need to remember is that a two stroke will idle slower then a four. The reason being is the four needs to idle faster to keep oil pressure up.
I love my F150, anyway so far. Regarding the trolling speed, it’s just simple math to get close to a trolling speed with these big engines. Look at the prop pitch, the gearcase gear ratio, and assume you can idle it at 700rpm. There is some inefficiency, and some boat drag, but this concept can get you close. None of these big engines can get you to those slow speeds simply because one spin of the prop will “ideally” push you 19-25 inches, minus a drag factor and slip factor. The guys above gave you good scoop on how slow it can troll. The little kickers are the answer when you need to do precision slow trolling, or side to side hovering over structure against the current. You’ll get lots of opinions on which kickers are best..mine is kinda grey and matches the F150
Two strokes can idle slower because there is a “burst” of power every revolution. This shot of power allows the motor to spin at a lesser RPM required than a 4-stroke.
With a 4-stroke there is a “burst” of power every other revolution, thus requiring a faster idle to keep the motor operating.
Technically, in theory, you get twice the power out of a 2-stroke (engine size and revolutions) than you do a 4-stroke.
Love my Yamaha F150 Purrs like a kitten, great on gas, no problems to speak of.
have the 150 yamaha on a ranger reata 1850 marine specialties has a f9.9 mlh2d 4 stroke would this work for a kicker or a t8 the only way to go pool 4 is where i fish
That 9.9 will work, no doubt about it. The T8 is the top of the line but I can tell you that a whole slug of walleyes on pool 4 have fallen victim to baits pulled around by non-T8 kickers. IF you want the best motor available for the job… that T8 is a dream. If funds are a little tight or you just can’t justify replacing a perfectly good 9.9 at this point… I wouldn’t sweat it.

So I did need to buy my t8, I could have just lowered the idle on my Yamaha 150 2 stroke. I don’t think it would have been good for the motor though.

If you want to sell your T8, put it in the classifieds, someone will purchase it.
Budweiser, I’m running the 1850/F150/T8. The F150 will troll down to 2.4-2.7 on this rig, depending on conditions. Love my T8! Puuurrrs like a kitten!

Oh Mark, you’re going to LOVE your T8, if you don’t already.
Jason you are right I love my T8, I wouldn’t trade it. I’m know buying a trollmaster for it.

impalapower, I was kidding I love my T8.
I think you know already, everyone on this site loves T8’s. I have a 6 hp Yamaha that came with the boat, I’ll change it when the time is right.
