I have had this for about 6 months now and had no problems. last week I was fishing in Wisconsin and it wouldn’t read my chip. I had it set to SMN on my navionics premium chip and when I told it to switch to NWI. In the bottom right hand corner the symbol that resemboled a MMC Card flashing at me. I shut the unit off, reinstalled the card and powered up making sure I set on NWI and nothing. It would show my location but, no detail on the lake. Can somebody help, it seems as if my Lowarance is not recognizing my chip?

Dude, I have been having a hell of a time with this unit going in and out of signal, not showing contours (reading chip), taking FOREVER to lock in, jumping positions to where I fished the day before.
Making all kinds of cool noises though. Blip, Bleep-bloop, brriiipp, blop SO I got that going for me which is good.
I think I need to hook up to Lowrance and get a more current version from thier site. I still love my Garmin GPSMAP76S, that thing is solid, but no bottom contours…yet.
February 20, 2007 at 10:32 pm #539363Guys remember that if you have the New Navionics 2007 chip it takes a long time to load cause the chip is 1GB sized chip! With that much data of course its going to have some hicups when reading the chip! Once you lock in it works great!!
Also is your lake on the chip??? Remember not all lakes are on the chips!!!
Hope this helps a little bit, you have to be patient with the handhelds, cause the processor is not as big as the summer gps’s as well!!!February 20, 2007 at 10:40 pm #539366I have an H2O and just downloaded the latest firmware that was released in January. Check your version since the new Navionics chip is setup for recent firmware applications. The processor in the H2O is designed to run best with 512MB cards or smaller. If that chip is 1GB it will slow it down quite a bit if you are using high detail map settings and options–turn as many details off as you can.
February 20, 2007 at 10:44 pm #539367The lake is on there, it happens after it locks in and reads the chip it will just blank out, make some cool noises like I mentioned and blank no contours and generic road maps. Then it will lock in and work for 10 seconds then blank out. I think they have a problem with the internal antenna. I can run the H20 and the GPSMAP76S side by side (and do often) and the Garmin locks in within 40 seconds, sometimes quicker and the lowrance with the same view of the sky takes several minutes up to 10 sometimes, to the point where I just shut the dang thing off.

You may be having some problems with the connections between the chip and the GPS. They may be loose, and/or not lining up properly. I would contact Lowrance if it continues to happen. You might try taking it out an putting it back in again. You might also make sure that the lake you’re looking for is in the section/region that you pulled up in the map data. You may also want to get the software update done if you have not yet. Lastly, I don’t know if it would help or not but you my attempt a soft reset of the unit.
February 21, 2007 at 12:10 am #539393Silly question, BUT when you load in the chip, you are turning that little “locking dial” 180 degres, right?

If not then it won’t be real firmly in place I would think.
Wade, I have a question. If the H20 [which has a much bigger processor than a Globelmap 3200 GPS] will read a chip that is too large [1GB when it should only be 512MB] would the Globelmap 3200 GPS read the 2006 north chip?
Thanks, Billps. Wade, what is the difference between the card reader that comes with Mapcreate and the Navionics Navplanner? Aren’t the card readers the same basicly? Please educate me. Thanks.

Not sure on the difference between the MapCreate Card reader and Navionics Navplanner Card reader but I do know that most regular SD Card readers will NOT read my Lakemaster Chip but the Mapcreate Card Reader will.
February 21, 2007 at 3:36 am #539478The 3200 will not run premium. These are compatibility issues that go beyond the features of the processor. Don’t over-think it. It’s like asking your VCR to play DVDs. Not gonna work.
All card readers are not the same. They have common components, but there are proprietary factors involved, among other factors.
February 21, 2007 at 3:42 am #539480Thanks Wade. Now I just need LakeMaster to add Lake Zumbro to their Minnesota chip as that chip will work in my 3200 as less lakes on it than chips that have multistates on them.
Thanks, BillFebruary 21, 2007 at 2:01 pm #539592The Lake is covered, as I have used it on that lake before. I have taken the chip in and out to make sure the connection is good and I do have the tab locked to secure the chip. Also I have the 06 version and I have not had this trouble in the past. How do you soft reset the unit? Ithink I will try that next.
February 21, 2007 at 4:01 pm #539660Reset instructions in manual. I recommend calling tech support. Its on their website. I called them with an issue the day I recieved my unit. I got a real person and they were spot on with an answer. Its not out of the question your chip is damaged. I had a camera card go bad once for no apparent reason.

No Bill, you need a new color Lowrance GPS.
Wade, I have to stay away from color as if I bought one color unit then I would want to replace all my locators and GPSs. Way toooooooooo expensive.

How about the present does the 06 chip work now?
February 21, 2007 at 10:50 pm #539833To do a soft reset, turn it off, hold the pages and power button, and release both buttons when it turns on.
A soft reset will not delete your waypoints, etc. A hard reset will!
