Organizations like J.D. Power and Assoc. and
Consumer Reports would be the last source I would look to before making a purchase decision.

I would rather have the testimonials of people I know and reports from sources I would trust, like from most of what we see hear on IDA.

J.D. Pointless Awards. A bunch of stiffs evaluate a bunch of customer surveys that were obtained in an unknown manner and produce a winner. Whoop-de-do.

Here’s the “stuff” that makes a difference to me… one of the former salesmen that used to work for LaCannes was a fountain of knowledge that was impartial and could be trusted. They sell Yamaha, Evinrude, Mercury and can even lay hands on Honda if you really want one. When I was looking for my next boat I’d call him and he’d tell me which motors from each manufacturer had been the best and which one’s were stinkers. And each manufacturer had both. His insights were always unbiased and based on facts and experiences derived largely from feedback gathered from his customers and the trained mechanics that worked at the dealership on the motors. It never mattered to him which motor I wanted as he sold them all but he would always take the time to steer me in the right direction.

    J.D. Powers… give me a break.

When I worked at the gas co, we got an award for best customer service in the midwest from JD Power. The company must have bought the award because our service was terrible to say the least.

i’ll be honest with you guys. for those that missed the sarcasm this was not a serious post, and the replies to myself were copied right off the other thread.

i just wanted to know what it felt like to be in the abscense of objectivity.

I did actually catch your sarcasm and I got a good chuckle out of it too. When it started to turn serious again I threw my 2 cents in the ring.

And I apologize for stating my thoughts so strongly. I didn’t mean to offend… if any offense was taken.

No problem at ALL getting from Everts to the Harbor. Fishing’s been… heck, I don’t know. I talked to BK today and he said they ACTUALLY had a boat out today. Nobody has been fishing that I know. It’s just been tooooooo cold. But that is about to change.

Evinrude did win it a few years ago, followed by Yamaha, Merc, and then again with both Evinrude and Merc.

My reference was to Merc having won it last year, making this 2 years straight.
