I am going to purchase a new GPS/SONAR unit for my boat here in the next week or two and have been seriously looking at the LCX27C from Lowrance. The question I have is has anyone here used this unit orhave any experience with it? It says it comes preloaded with maps for over 3000 lakes. How do the preloaded maps compare to the ones that you can buy from navionics and such? also looking at putting a 332c on the front of the boat has anyone used this unit either? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

It’s the LCX-28C that has the Hard Drive with preloaded maps. These maps are not as detailed as what you will find on the Lakemaster or Navionics Premium map chips. Some people purchase the HD units (preloaded) and also get the additional map chips. These are usually anglers who tend to travel around to different parts of the country and want to have coverage of the entire USA. If you’re fishing a specific region and tend to stay within that region, the LCX-27C and either the Lakemaster or Navionics chip (depending on where you fish) would be the best way to go, most likely.

On the 332C, I have one on my boat and sold a ton of them last year. They have been discontinued and the new unit is the LMS-520C. It has a few new benefits including improved screen. It would also be a great choice.

I have an X25C (last year’s 27C) at the console and a 332C that I move around between the bow when I’m pitching or the kicker when I’m trolling. Both are EXCELLENT units. The 25C gives you a larger screen that is easier on the eyes than the 332C, and the 25C also gives you two map card slots to the one on the 332C. If you run in split-screen mode, the 25C gives you larger views of the map/sonar than you could get with a split screen on the 332C. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either of these units.

When you’re ready to pull the trigger on one or both of these units, do yourself the favor of checking with Wade at Jolly Ann marine for the web’s most competitive pricing, OUTSTANDING customer service, free shipping, and no sales tax outside of IA. Wade won my business a long time ago…he’s outfitted my rig with a trolling motor, 3 locators, a VHF, a portable VHF, an anchor…..good thing the guy doesn’t sell rods too!!

Wade, could you be a bit more specific on the differences between the old 332 and the 520?
