I’m looking to expand from just spinning reels to a few nice casting reels. Looking for something that won’t ‘back lash’ and leave me with a rats nest . Looking to spend around $50’ish. Primarily used for crank baits.

    Thanks!

That just takes a little practice.

Abu Garcia’s Ambassadeur always gets the nod for me, you can do anything with it, from casting cranks to live bait rigging and even cattin’ they’re a really good all around reel and I’m pretty sure they make a model that you can get into for your price range.

For the money you cannot beat an Abu Garcia C3. $65 or so at most places.

One question.. how heavy of bait do you intend to cast with a baitcaster? If your planning to throw lighter cranks, low profile baitcasters are going to perform best hands down. If your throwing heavier lures, the c3 series is an excellent choice.

You best off throwing heavier lures to get sef-trained on baitcasters.. 3/4 oz weight, etc. Once you get that down and learn to adjust your reel, you will have a much easier time throwing smaller baits.. just dont try casting into the wind for a while

You might have opened a can of worms with this topic. There are plenty of opinions on reels and plenty of reels that sell for around $50. If you’re just getting into casting with baitcasters, backlashes are part of the learning process…better get use to them. Starting with a heavy weight is a good tip, then work ‘up to’ lighter baits. Practice a few times in an open space before getting in the boat. There’s nothing more frustrating than pulling out rats nests when you’re on the water. I’ve got a couple of rods/reels collecting dust if you’re interested and it won’t cost you $50. Drop me a PM.

Here’s one little tip when you are using a baitcaster.Make your cast and while the line is going out hold your reel so the spool is vertical. it helps alot. GOOD LUCK. Dan
