Fish Trap Pro or Guide

I have an older flip over, but am wanting to upgrade. I think I have decided on the Fish Trap, but am wondering what guys that use them think about the size. Is it better to use the one man “pro” or get the bigger “guide”? I have a larger shack if I need room for another. This shack would be for one person only.

Welcome to the site STX, I just got the X Trap 2 and love it. Check out the X Trap, for one.

    Welcome to IDA

It all boils down to personal preference!!!! I like using the Pro, cause I can fit everything into the sled that I need for a day of fishing. I can then take the Pro and fit it onto the back of my wheeler rack and go….no need to drag this sled behind! I am sure you could do the same with the Guide but it will obviously be larger!
There are obvious advantages to the smaller Pro style as well as advantages to the larger Guide as well. That is why it all boils down to what you prefer in a fishhouse. If you have a fishhouse for 2 people I say go with the Pro!!! My opinion!!!!

Definitly your opinion is what matters!

I liked the guide. Not the best for traveling with wheeler in the back of the truck but it works, what I liked most is that you can fit everything you need in it. heater, buckets, rods, cooler, bait, electronics, lunch what ever you may need. the pro was just a little small for me too.

I have the Guide and fish alone mainly. I wish I had a Pro to be honest. The guide is reallllly nice but it does take a lot of room out of a vehicle compared to the pro. Is a little more difficult to handle and is a lot of wasted space on the ice for what I bring.

If you are thinking you might have 2 guys now and then, it’s a great solution.

If I did it all over again I’d own a Yukon and a Pro.

Thanks for the responses. I knew it was time for a new one when I got saddled between to ol boys this weekend and I was freezing my butt off and they were enjoying tropical like weather in their Fish Traps.

I use a guide most of the time. I really like it for one person fishing. Plenty of room. It also is good if you have someone with too. A little crowded but still functional.

From reading your question, you already have a bigger shack and are looking for a solo shack. I would then definitely go with the “Pro”
Pro’s are much lighter in weight, plenty big for 1 guy and lots of gear, easy to pull by hand, and takes up less space in the truck and when storing. I have the “Pro” and have been very happy with it.

My vote is for the Pro too

Plenty of room and you can heat it with the small buddy heater.

    Great lightweight unit.

I run Otter but if you put your stuff through a beating I would consider the X-Series.

    Scott,

I agree with you on the otter and the X series.

But if you want to load a good portable on the back of an ATV or truck, it sure is hard to beat the Pro.

The otter and X are kind of heavy for one person.
