Evinrude 30 HP 4-Stroke

    I just bought a boat with a 2001 Evinrude (Bombardier) 30 HP 4-stroke. So far so good, but I have seen a couple of comments about bad experiences with Evinrudes. Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with this particular motor?

    dont run over 3/4 throttle after you plane out the boat

    Care to elaborate on why I shouldn’t run over 3/4 throttle? Do you have some personal experience with this motor?

    I also bought a used boat last fall that has a 2000, 40 horse 4-stroke Evinrude on it. So far so good as well, but am also very interested in the 3/4 throttle comment……care to elaborate?

    When I was running my boat up the river full-throttle, the head cracked; and the mechanic told me the reason was too high of rpms on a four-stroke smaller motor. He also told me the safest thing to do with a 30 hp or smaller four-stroke is to back off to 3/4 throttle after you hit plane. Sorry I didn’t get back soon, but I’ve been “gone fishing”.
