VHF ?

    I’m back on my “I need a radio” for the boat. Any thoughts on the hand helds on the market. The radio will be used mostly on in land lakes very rarly on the Great Lakes.

    You will get less range on a handheld. It all depends on your needs. This HX270S is a nice package.

    Wade – since these radios are basically “line-of-sight”, do any handhelds come with an extendable antenna, say up to 3 or 4 feet?

    Not to my knowledge. If range is an issue, I suggest the fixed-mount VHF radio with an 8-footer or the 4-foot little giant antenna.
