Just want some input on what size, volts ect.
I have a 2001 Lund 1800 Prov with a 175 and a 9.9. I would like to put a front trolling motor on, just want to see what is going to be best for it. I was thinking 24 v for sure with a 65# thrust, not sure what else. Let me know your thoughts if you can. I know there is some for sale of the classifieds, but i am holding out till i get some reply… Thanks!!

Another thing to consider will be the shaft length, you do not want the motor popping out of the water. For a 1800 ft boat I would think about moving up to around 74lb thrust.

I have a 17 ft ranger R-73 with a 74 lb maxxum. Not sure of my total boat weight compared to the pro-v described, but probably pretty close. Runs good in even heavy current, no complaints yet. I really like the infinite speed control, you can really dial in to what speed you need and avoid the on-off dilemma. Also, it has a universal sonar hookup which is nice-no extra transducer wires.

I have a 18′ Warrior with a 74# Maxxum and 60″ shaft. I reallly like the way it handles my boat. I mainly fish Leech and it handles great in the wind. Shaft length is very important, especially if you are going to use it in high winds and the more thrust you can afford the better. You will appreciate the added thrust in the wind. I really like the Maxxum and would recomend it to anyone. The infinate speed control is great as well as the fine tuning steering. I use the fine tune steereing more than the foot pad when walleye fishing in most situations.
    hope this helps

I have an 1800 Pro V and have a Minnkota with 74 lb thrust, 24 volt. I would get at least 74 lb if not more depending on what type of fishing your doing. If you fishing the big rivers, you need that extra power.

    BigFish4,
I have one recommendation from experience. I have upgraded Minn Kota trolling motors twice in 5 years due to changes in the areas I fish, and needing more power for some applications. I would recommend getting the most power you available, at least in 24 volt model. You can always slow the motor down, but when you need big thrust, it will there.

I always recommend getting the largest trolling motor you can afford. You running time will be greatly increased, that is unless you will be running the motor in the highest setting constantly. If you would like to see a great article on trolling motors, check out the http://www.bowfisiowa.com site under info page. There is a great informative trolling motor article.

I run a Lund 1675 Explorer SS,50hsp Merc. The trolling motor I use is the Minkota 65PD 24V with a 60″ shaft. Sometimes I use this to troll with while handlining or three waying.I have all day trolling with out running out of charge. Top that off with the co-pilot that I just picked up (thanks deezee)and I do believe I am set for all situations.

ps: make sure you get yourself set up with an onboard charger too….you’ll be very glad you did.
