looking for a new smallie rod and was wondering if anybody had used this loomis: MBR843C (mag bass 7′ casting med-heavy).

i would like to use it as a multi-purpose rig. casting cranks, for buzzbaits, and possibly tubes/jerkbaits. it may be a little stiff for cranks but i hate wimpy powered rods for smallies.

    thanks all – b.s.

Surely a nice rod. My own personal preference on that rod is for swimming jigs, texas rigged plastics or even flipping into some cover. I don’t know enough about the line to recommend a different model but I think the MBR have a backbone that wouldn’t be my first choice for cranks. I checked out some of the Setyr line of rods. Check out a guy with the handle Alvin Mack on this site. He knows his rods !

I haven’t used that rod in particular, I have a GL2. I personally think ALL G Loomis rods are worth the $, best rod I have ever used- like fishing with a feather in your hand
