I am looking for a good place to get a boat cover made. Don’t know if I want a snap down or bungy. Has anyone had problems with the snap down covers when traveling?

I have a snap on and love it. What’s really nice is you can cover your boat while docked and your seats are dry and bug free in the morning even if it dosen’t rain.

I own a snap and love it…most of the year! Be careful in choosing a material and ask that the manufacturer leave a “LITTLE BIT” and not make it fit tighter than a banjo string. They are extremely difficult to get snapped in cold weather, if you use your boat in winter. Ever notice on some portable fishhouses how easy it is to pull the canvas over the frame and button everything down when the canvas is warm, but harder than heck when the canvas is very cold? Well, it’s the same with boat covers. I know a guy that can put both straps and snaps on your cover so you have the best of both worlds. PM me if interested in his Ph. #

I have a custom-made snap-on cover… Fits great, have towed the boat across the state at 70+ mph on the highway and have had zero problems. A buddy of mine has a strap-down and he ruined his paint job when the straps kept slapping the side of the boat when towed. As stated in an earlier post, don’t skimp (sp?) on the fabric – go with a heavy-duty canvas… I also really like the fact that I can cover the boat when tied up to the dock overnight – keeps the rain/dew and bugs away!

I also had my snap on boat cover done at Erichsen Marine, I also like the snaps vs the tie down staps. I love the Top Gun fabric it is the best you can get IMHO. I have had some problems with the poles standing up, if the back pole falls down then the snaps in back come lose on me. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did do to fix it?

Same issue here. I epoxied a nickle-sized patch of that non-slip sandpapery stuff that you can get for bathtubs to the bottom of the pole(I cut the toe off one of those foot-shaped non-skid pieces). That gives enough traction to the pole – it never fell down after that. It also is important to get the pole as near vertical as you can.

Steve – Carpet floor here. I hate it. Wish I had vinyl. the carpet is really nice when clean, but it is a chore to keep that way. My rig is an ’01 and in ’02 or 03 they started putting in the removable carpet floors – that snap in place over a vinyl surface. That would be much preferred – as the carpetting tends to get gross by the third day of a salmon trip .
