Both boats would be fine rides and give you many years of service. You should be able to get a real bargain on the 182.(non current) I would have to give the nod to the 182 on fishability. Plenty of room up front for running bow mount. Room enough in back for running kicker and accommodate 2 or more anglers. To many varibles involved with what type of speed you would get. Pm me if you would like more info. I am currently running a 182, and would be glad to help.
I have a 17′ Mr pike with a 115 Yamaha. I can go about 43 mph with a full 33 gallons of gas and all my gear on board. hope this can give you some help. I would recommend the Yamaha 115 4 stroke its a great motor. I just removed my Merc 115 2 stoke and replaced it with the Yamaha.
On the speed… Yes you can get what Yamaha claims. In my experience their performance data is right on.
A big difference between the 182 and FH is the rise of the hull. The 182 is 17 degrees while the FH is 11. You’ll notice that difference on rough water.
I ran a new 1850 FH w a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke last year. The 115 is underpowered on that boat (in my opinion). A 182 may get out of the hole better and run a little faster. I tried every possible prop and best ever GPS was 37 mph with a normal load. James ex guiding partner ran a 182 w a 115 I’ll bet he(James) can comment on its performance. I would opt for a 150 Yammy 4 stoke in a heartbeat. James runs a 175 HDPI on his 182 and runs 54-56 mph.
I was just forwarded a link to a performance site (thanks !). Their test indicated a top end of 39mph for a Suzuki 140 paired with the 1850. Please tell me that is a mistake. I would expect mid 40’s.
I know a Pro Am guy in town here that just put a new 140 Zuki on a 2 yr old 1850 FH and He is getting exactly that….39 mph and is a little , but like I said, I could only get 37 out of my 115 on the 1850 FH.
