Birthday is coming up…..looking at a start UW camera that won’t break the bank. The scout is being blown out everywhere, is that a good option? Better option? Is the downward looking camera as good as one that reads horizontally? Looking for any and all opinions.

    PM if you like

I have an aqua vu ZT and like it, but wish I could afford the Marcum VS 560. that thing is amazing. I wouldn’t go for the down viewing aqua vu though personally. I think this is kind of a waste of $ because its not as versitile as other camera models. My fish camera from aqua vu has an attatchment designed to clip the cord to so you can view it facing down, so it has the best of both worlds Horizontal would have to be the absolute best way to go when it comes to viewing in a moving boat

Jason, does the Marcum have a video in cable that can be plugged into my Aqua View DVR? I have the Scout now but am seriously thinking of an upgrade to the Marcum 560.It sounds pretty sweet.. Thanks

I have an aqua view as well. You can one up fairly easy in an economical price. I would not get the downward view either…Nothing better than watching the action down there!!

I used the Marcum 560. The first time was in lowlight and dirty water with sediment suspended. I could maybe see 18 inches horizontally. The second time I was going to use it…no image the camera didn’t work. Never got the chance to try downviewing with it.

This is a $600 camera with all the bells and whistles. Has all the features you would want. The remote may be a waste in my opinion since you can’t actually see the screen from that far away. If it only performed I would have been happy with it.

With Aqua Vu you can’t get all those features in one system. If you wanted a camera to turn you would have to buy additional equipment or always have one hand on the cord. The MAV camera for the boat looks awesome, but it should if the price is $2000.

    That’s just my experience.

If you buy the Aqua Vu Scout by the end of the day today (12/31/06) there is a $25 rebate, making this a steal. The Scout picture quality is just as clear has the high dollar models.

The scout is a downviewing rig isn’t it?

The scout veiws both ways, has a notch in the tail for downveiwing. Not sure how well it works have never used ours that way.

tgif, sounds like you had a leaky camera, I am sure MarCum got it taken care of for you, pretty easy repair.

Big D, the MarCum 250 and 350 are both good options. We used them on Mille Lacs for filming. The 350 has a larger monitor but also costs a little more. Both units come with a nice padded soft pack and will meet most people’s needs.

    Scott,

Would love to get a marcum, but probably not in my price range this close after Christmas….looking for more entry level if possible…honestly, I don’t know how much it will get used…sure hate to put out $500 on something that I won’t get $500 of use out of…know what I mean?

Could buy used, but that’s a crapshoot.

That’s why I was looking at the scout.

    159 camera
    -25 mail in rebate
-20 coupon I got from Cabelas

Shoot $114…don’t mind paying that, specially when I have half of that on a gift card in my wallet already….

    Thanx for the replies
