I am putting the final touches to rigging my Lund 1800 Fisherman and would like to mount 2 sets of rod holders on each side ( aft). and 1 on each side on the bow rail. I do use the boat for pulling my teenagers tubing from time to time. I’d like them to be removable and out of the way when not used. The flush mount systems look like they may be the way to go. I know Ram makes a decent unit, but they are mounted with a high profile when in use. What advantages are there to this style?

Anyone have any thoughts on types of Rod Holders. What about other brands? Before I start drilling holes, I’d like to here from a few who use rod holders for trolling.
    thanks,

    Coffee,
The biggest advantage to the Ram-Mount high profile, is clearance. They were designed to give the angler the quickest and easiest removal from the holder. The Ram rail mounts sound perfect for the bow of your boat. For the aft I would suggest going with side mounts if you can. The rod holders can be easily removed and stored. If you have further questions pm me.

I do a lot of trolling and love either Scotty or Action rod holders. Knock on wood I have never had 1 break or cause me any problems.

I have to agree with Don. I just converted over to the RAM flush mount system, It is a little more work and you have to put some holes on your gunnel, but to me it makes a much more taylored look and they don’t get in the way. I like how high they set and how quick you can remove the poles. I have had a few other brands but I think I have found what I think fits me best !

I have the Ram mount system. I have had many other brands on my boats and the Ram system is by far the most versital system I have found. You get clearance for spinning reels, you can also turn them 360 deg to face what ever direction you want. They store very easy, the mount is low profile and you can remove any pole very easy.
