    James,
Was it the speed selection slide that was going bad on your pedals? Seems that between 2 and 5 on my PD pedal has been lost. If that is the case, is there anything that can be done, or is a new pedal the only fix.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

I’ve had the speed slide go bad a couple times but the reoccuring issue for me is that I can turn right but not left. And a new pedal is the only fix.

With the footpad it is easy to keep one eye on the front mounted GPS and keep track of everything. A speed setting of 4 gives me a 1.2 mph forward speed 20′ off shoreline heading into the current. That same power setting of 4 gives me a 0.5 mph forward speed 25′ off the same shoreline… and I just found a nice little current seam that can be hard to spot with the naked eye on a windy day or if there’s no debris in the water.

Now that right there is a perfect example of the hidden gems of tips/tricks you can find on this website! You never know what you’ll find or where you’ll find it – that’s why I surf this site often!!!

I am in the process right now of upgrading from a 55 PD to ???? and this thread is very informative. I have had pedal issues with my 55 but reason for upgrade is not enough ump and slow response time. I am leaning towards a 80 maxxum and I think the boy has been in contact with Wade about it. When I fish with the troller most of the time I have a rod in each hand so the Remote isn’t an option for me. Being a walleye guy who fishes out of the front of the boat 100 per cent of the time when the troller is in use will I be happy with the foot pedal on the Maxxum (cable drive type motor)? I am usually vertical jigging, dragging or live baiting with a rod in each hand. My other question deals with shaft length: I curently have a 54 inch shaft and it works most of the time but on Oahe in the waves it comes out of the water on occasion, will a 62(or whatever next length is) serve me better? I know it will be able to run deeper in the water but it will also be longer and harder to store on a daily basis. Wade, when will you have the 2007 Maxxums in stock?

You should be looking at a new terrova for the boat IMHO. You’ll hate yourself for buying a cable drive (on a walleye boat), I know from experince.

The only advantage I see that a PD has over a cable drive is length of foot pedal cord.

That is it, in my humble opinion.

Autopilot is a different story all together though!

The new Maxxums are already rolling in. Some models are in stock now.

I don’t know if you’d be happier with the Terrova or Maxxum. Both have pros. I believe James is planning on running the Terrova this year and you know how much he fishes the river. I like my powerdrive for the comfort features myself, so I may bump up to the Terrova.

It’s all personal preference. I pretty much only fish walleye and love my cable steer. 5 years and never an issue with a pedal. It does limit your ability to move around as your foot pretty much stays glued to the pedal, but once you get used to it, it’s second nature. To me, it’s worth it to not have to worry about the pedal taking a dump on me every 6 months.

I have fished more thanmost this past season with the same pedal and no problems. I attribute that to the fact that I use the Re-actionsystem and dont need to constantly adjust the slide dial, also the steering problem may have to do with sand and it can be cleaned off of the contacts of the pedal. I don’t even put my foot pedal in the boat anymore as I love my co-pilot. One thing I don’t like about it is 10 speed settings. I sure would like a 2.5.
