I recently purchased a 16 foot Lund and am planning on buying a new bow mount trolling motor for it. What is the maximum amount of thurst that you would feel would be necessary? Any types that you are particularly happy with?

I am thinking of getting around a 55 thurst in Motor Guide.

    Any thought are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    A

24 Volt, as much thrust as you can afford with the longest shaft.

I have a Minnkota 65 lb. with Autopilot 24volt on a 16 1/2 ft. boat and works great. Thanks, Bill

Cabelas has a Minnkota 24 volt trolling motor for $480. It has a 52″ shaft 65 lb. thrust. I just bought one for my boat because 43 lbs. of thrust just wasn’t enough to fight the wind. I’ll let you know how I like it after this weekend. The catalog # is SP-01-5589.

I have a minkota 65 autopilot/copilot 60″ shaft on a 17′ lund and it works great. Buy as much thrust as you can afford.

If you fish the river current or in the wind, then go with a 24 volt motor. Been there done that with both 12 & 24 volt systems.

Really like the trolling motor. More than enough power for fighting the wind. Would recommend it.

Thanks for all the replies. I took the advice and got one that should suffice.
Ended up getting a 60lbs Thrust 24 Volt Motorguide this weekend. Can’t wait to get it out.
    Thanks again.

As big a thrust and as long of a shaft as you can afford. 24 volts. Universal sonar on the minnkota’s is also nice at a not as nice price. TGIF
