Need advice on which I should go with…Short or Long Shaft.

I have 19′ Alumacraft that has a 15″ Transom. Is a short shaft too short? Would a long shaft, when tilted, still be in the water?

    Thanks!!

    I have a really hard time believing a 19′ boat has a 15″ transom?

Are you sure its not a 20″? Most the bigger deep boats are 20″ or 25″.

Are you going to have a kicker plate, or mounting it on the transom? If its a 20″ transom, its a long shaft, 15″ short, 25″ x-long shaft.

I would go with a long shaft. whit a short shaft when you kick it in reverse it will hitt the back of the boat and not go anywhere. I have a 1675 lund explorer with a long shaft T8 (the best motor in my opinion by the way) and it works just fine. It dips into the water a little when I punch the gas but comes back out after I’m on plane. I had a 15hp short shaft on before that and had problems from the get-go.

I second what Jr. says….go with the long-shaft! Also, when the time comes it will be easier to sell the long-shaft.

I measured the transom last night and it is 15″ where the kicker will be mounted. I was ready to buy a long shaft and a dealer told me to go with a short shaft due to the short transom…
