I have a problem I am sure somebody here might be able to help with. I broke the splines off of the driveshaft of my ’73 Evinrude 25 hp. It is broke at the end where it connects to the lower unit gears. Is this expensive to fix? Anybody know how much it might run to repair? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Mike

The price will probaly shock you into buying a new motor. I’d expect to pay $450 – 600 bucks when it’s all said and done. (Meaning, when the tech tears into it he will probably find more stuff that needs fixing) 30 years out of an outboard is pretty good. Time to see what the bone yard will give you. Twin City Outboard may take it off your hands.

Will never hirt to take it in for and est… But you may get it back in a box of parts….

After I posted this I started thinking that you may be able to call TC outboard and get a used lower unit in the $100-200 range instead of rebuilding…!!!???

    Just a thought…

had a problem similar to this a while ago before i bought my new motor, look for used part stores to find the part that you need, it might take quite a bit of shopping around, but it will be worth it compared to be repairing it.
