Bait caster help…

I was at Gander Mountain today ($10 off Guide series right now). I am looking for a 7′ Med/Light fast action bait casting rod. They had lots of Med-but the tips were firmer then I wanted. I am currently using a 7′ St Croix Med/Light spinning rod for long lining cranks and like the action, but prefer a bait caster.

So I got back and checked Cabelas and Bass Pro. Not much luck. I could get a St Croix PC70MLF, but would like to spend around $50 instead of $100.

    Any suggestions???? Thanks!

    Dave,
try the Clarus line from Shimano. I have a 7′ med light spinning model. I would guess they would have it in a casting rod also. Fished with it the first time on Tuesday and I REALLY like it. Haven’t tried long lining it yet. I think I paid around 55 bucks for it. Just a bit below the Compre’ line. Got it Joe’s in St Paul

Are you staying away from pistol grips? LMK – I have a Custom St. Croix, Premier blank, 10-17lb. medium act. that I could deal for that.

Otherwise…………..there’s a lot out there right now. Just yesterday the Woodbury Galyan’s had a 7′ Berkley Lightning Rod, IM7 on clearance for $39.97. I “think” it was a medium act., 8-14lb. test. As for casting rods that act like spinning rods…………..there’s just not as many of them available. Let me double check but I may have a Berkley IM7 TGS rod ($60 new) that I could let go of too and that whole series was known for softer tip action and good power back toward the handle. Also had titanium guides. I can check my stock when I get home tonight and see what good stuff I might have. Otherwise…………shop around a little. Clearances began weeks ago but there’s still a plenty of good deals to be found. Check out the Rapala Sportman’s Series and Tournament Series too. You might hook up with something there.

The best thing I could recommend is a G-Loomis Crankbait Series but they’re a bit over your price preference. On the flip side, you’ll love it to death!
