Ok, I guess I want to ask ice guys wich is better for shallow water gills, a flasher, a graph or an underwater camera. I guess either one will let me know if fish are under me. Also, they would let me know what depth the fish are at. Therfore, what is the over-all preference?

Bob-Flasher hands down I wouldn’t give up my flasher for any type of ice fishing, whether it be shallow panfish or deep eyes and perch. I had the camera and sold it less than a year later. I can’t give you any info on the graphs, just the flashers. My MarCum tells me all I need to know about what is below me from fish to bottom composition

In case you still had any doubt, a flasher marcum if you really want to get specfic, atleast IMHO. Cameras as neat as they seem, are a PITA, once your set-up they are ok, and flashers can shoot through the ice to find depth.

Relative to flashers, is there a difference between Vexilar and Marcum. Is one preferable to the other?

What? You don’t want to endure another Marcum vs Vexilar debate?

Bob, Take a look in the Ice Fishing Forum. There are some discussions on Vexilar vs Marcum. Both are good companies and make a good product. Do your research and then make your own choice. If you find all things equal or if you find that Marcum is the better product, know that in purchasing a Marcum you are helping support an IDA sponsor in addition to getting a great product.

Bob – You’ll want a flasher if your going to fish Blackhawk in Cobb. You might want to look for one with the ability to voom in on different depts as the 12″+ crappies will suspend in the deeper (20′) waters in frt of the beach.

Bob, No problem. We have some outstanding ice fishermen around here so I’m sure you’ll get some good advice. I’ll link to a couple of recent discussions that may help…

Sorry. I have to take advantage of this. I have used the LMS332 c as a “flasher”. I dun see how a flasher works better than a underwater camera? Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks. Obviously, I am one of those guys that have not invested in a flasher.

If you’re new to icefishing, you should check out the Lowrance line of products, too. I was a newbie last year, and I bought the X67c Ice Machine. I love it. Now, there are guys that have been using flashers since they were invented and they would never consider the Lowrance concept, but they are a great tool, quite a bit cheaper than a flasher, and it’s a nice color summer unit, too!

In stained water or low light conditions and night fishing a camera is basicly worthless while a flasre will tell you whats below in any condition. I have both and honestly use the camera more but I’m lucky to have gin clear water. Flasher only comes out at night.
