I’ve been out of the gun game for awhile…went to the range last night to sight in my .270 with Redfield 3×9 and it was all over the place….

Gonna take it in to Gander today to have it boresighted, but I can’t adjust it like I want…i’m hoping it isn’t toast..BUT if it is….and I have to replace it…what is out there these days for quality…been 10 years since I was in my gunshop, and what was good then, probably isn’t now…

I have a Nikon Buckmaster. I can tell you it’s pretty good to 200+ yards…. Reasonable too.

Your scope isnt loose is it?

There are a lot of really nice scopes on the market.. but I think the economical ones work just fine too if your not shooting 1000 yards at a chipmunk.

I have always been a fan of Leupold. They make a quality scope that has always worked for me.

I think this may be a Ford/Chevy thing though. I think most if not all manufacturers sell quality products, but you will get what you pay for

Nope, scope is tight as it has been for 23 years…..my adjustments aren’t giving me what I need, so I think it is internal

I am no expert on optics, but I think they fill them with argon or nitrogen to provide a vacuum to resist influences from the outside environment. After that much time I would bet any scope may break down…
Good luck! All the scopes mentioned are very nice! I know my next will be a Simmon’s. Very clear, and I love their wide field of vision. The price is right as well!

It might be worth the money to have a gunsmith look at it before you bought a new scope. The $29.00 Tasco I bought at Target (honest!) is still hitting the same place shot after shot 25 years after I bought the thing. On the other hand, a guy I used to hunt with refinished his stock and after putting the gun back together it shot all over the map. He had a little relieving to do here and there since he now had some binding problems in the stock. A gunsmith could probably figure out where the problem is.

Thanx Rootski, but I was a gunsmith for 10 years….looked at all the normal problems…..I personally think the scope is a turd right now, and don’t have the time to deal with it

You get what you pay for in optics. Remember what is at stake, it could be your “shot of a lifetime”!

D, don’t rule out Burris. I really like the Ballisticplex sighting system. I haven’t shot with it, but in theory, the sales pitch got me.

I am mosty an open sighted, flintlock shootest. However, I have touched off my share of center fire rounds, and have experience with optics. First off, you can not go wrong with Burris, Nikon or Leupold. I personally think the Nikon is the brightest of the three (My humble opinion). In any event get what you can offord. The Cabela’s guide series ( I think they are called that) are very good also and way cheaper.

    Good luck with your decision.

I have 3 Leupolds and love them, but last year I was talking to a guy that I give alot of respect too when it comes to shooting and he said that the Nikons are quality scopes he swears by them. Now you will find better out there but for the price he says they are a real bargin. He is not affiliated with them it was just his honest opinion!! my .02

That will be my next scope unless I get rich and can get a sworovski or Zeiss

One you may have overlooked as well is the Bushnell (AKA Baush & Lomb) 3200 and 4200. I have several Leupolds, Nikons, Simmons and Burris I like the Bushnell 4200 better than the others. If it came down to Nikon or Leupold the Leupolds seem to have a sharper focus around the peripheral and would be my choice. My 2 cents. Mark
