Lowrance X-15 (GPS Module not working)

I have a older X-15 with the GPS module. It quit working the other day and now I cannot get it to gain position. I have checked all the connections between the power and the antenna, but everything seems in tact. I have no signs of corrosion around the plugs into the unit or to the antenna. The transducer works fine.

    Any ideas?

I had heard (perhaps an old wive’s tale) that these GPS pucks can get cooked by a radar sweep. Did you notice this after a Pool 2 trip Steve? Maybe a barge tow painted you with his radar and cooked the puck?

Does someone have a puck that Steve can borrow to determine if his puck has gone bad? I have an extra LGC2000, but that won’t work with your X15.

Not a wives tale, it happened to me. I was watching the track plot line as I passes the tug. Cooked right there. From that point on “GPS Not Responding”. Lowrance replace with a new “Shielded” puck, no questions asked.

Steve, I have a puck sitting on the shelf right now. If you want to plug it in (and use it) to see if it cures the problem, let me know.

    Thanks again guys!

DZ, test it out and let me know if you need another one.

Jon’s correct about the radar issue on the older GPS modules.

Don’t CUT the puck out. It probably is still good. The pucks have a sort of “firmware” that can get “messed up” under certain circumstances. It could be reloadedable if it is the correct module.

I’m not saying, but I’m saying.

I have the same problem. But mine is the LGX2000. However, my problem is intermittent. Once in a while, I get the message and after wiggling some wires and switching it back on a one to a few times, it will work. Still cannot figure out the problem.

Vincent, Your problems sounds like a ground issue. Check to make sure the connections are solid and that the bare shield wire is connected to ground (as well as the regular power wires).
