I have a 1992 Mercury 150 outboard. On Sunday a alarm on the thing started beeping. As I understand it could be overheating or no oil. The oil reservoir is well over half full. The engine still “smokes” when I start it. I believe it is still get oil injected in the fuel. As far as overheating and circulating water there is still a pencil size stream of water spraying out from the bottom of the engine base. Any one have any ideas, is there a way to flush the thing out if it’s plugged up. Only ran it back on the trailer after the beeping started, still starts fine.

The “Beep, Beep, Beep” alarm is the oil alarm. A constant “BEEEEEEEEP” is the overheat alarm.

First thing to check is the oil reservoir under the hood. Make sure that is filled all the way to the top of the cap. (Almost overflowing) If there is any air in there, it can set off that alarm.

I have a 2001 Merc 90, it beeps right about half full and then will change to a coninous been at about 1/4 tank…pleanty of warning to add the spare quart of oil that I keep in the boat.

So filler up to the line and try’er again…let us know if that’s the problem!

Hey thought I would throw this out. My dad has a 94 135 merc that was doing the same thing. He took it in and it ended up being the plastic gear was stripped out on the crankshaft that ran the oil pump. I don’t know if that could be it but just my $.02

Checked out under the hood last night. got looking around, found a broken clear oil line about 4″ long. Ckecked all the rest of the lines for cracks and brittleness. I’m replacing the tubing tonight. Hope to take it out Wedesday night after work…. keeping my fingers crossed. Do I need to worry about “air” in the line? Need to bleed or anything?

Yes, I would run a 50-1 pre mix until you can varify the oil resevoir is working properly…..
