1800 ProV rod storage problem

I recently bought a 2006 1800 prov tiller…..the problem I have is with the rod storage….supposedly you can store up to 7 foot rods, but my 6’8 and 7′ spinning rods won’t fit….the tubes are long enough, but the last eye won’t fit into the tube opening. Has anybody else encountered this problem, and if so do you have a solution?

    Will removing the tube help?

Lund isn’t the only manufacturer with this problem. I’ve watched it mentioned here before about others too. For the life of me I can’t believe one of the engineers designing these boats doesn’t fish with spinning rods. What are they, BASS fisherman.

Interesting….I have had every model 1800ProV tiller since they started, including the ’06, and only had those issues in early models of the “new” center rod locker. That was solved by making the tubes in an oval shape instead of round.

That all said, I do run into a small snag with a few of the spinning rods but solve it by just bending the last big eye toward the rod blank a little and sliding it in. No harm done. Never!

If that doesn’t work, although I think it is impossible, maybe you got old round tubes. But I doubt that!

Let me know what happens…and if bending the eyes down a little doesn’t solve the issue, I will have you check in with the right person at Lund.

The tubes are oval…..bending the eyes is an interesting idea….might work…..it will seem a little “weird” bending the eyes on the rods since that is something that I always try to avoid doing. Thanks for the help!

Kooty, I agree with you…..it seems like the pro v is an ideal walleye boat, but I just don’t understand why they must think that we use baitcasting rods….when I go to fish tournaments I usually bring 10 rods with and only 3 of them are baitcasters…..hard to figure out where to put the 7 spinning rods.
