Loose Tiller Steering

I have an ’89 Evinrude 60 Hp tiller on a 16′ Crestliner. The engine still runs like a top, but over the years the steering has gotten loose. I would like to tighten it up so it doesn’t flop around at slow speeds. I have looked for an adjustment, but I can’t seem to find one.

Does anyone have any experience with tightening it up, or a suggestion for a good go to guy who would know about an older Evinrude.

    Thanks,

SHOULD BE AN ADJUSTMENT JUST UNDER THE POWER HEAD. SHOULD LOOK LIKE APPX. A 3/8″ “SET SCREW” THAT IS SPRING LOADED.

My ’86 Evi 40 tiller had a Philips screw under the powerhead on the shaft toward the front. I don’t remember mine having a spring on it though. seemed like a brute force adjustment compared to some other brands.

    Good luck,

Thanks for the feedback guys! I loaned my rig out to a friend for the week, when he gets back I’ll check it out.
