I just bought a boat equipped with a Lowrance LCX15MT with GPS and I’m new to all this high tech stuff. I was wondering if someone might know where to go to download the best lake maps for this unit. I am paticularly interested in getting Namakan Lake on it as well as Kabetogema/Crane lakes.

    Thanks in advance!

The best mapping for those three lakes would be the Navionics Premium North, but you can’t run it on the LCX-15. Your only decent option is the Lowrance Lakemaster MN chip which has Kabetogema as a “Lowrance enhanced map”, not a true Lakemaster map. Crane and Namakan are not listed on the chip at all. You might want to wait until next year and see if they add your lakes or consider upgrading to a new GPS that can run the Navionics Premium chip.

    Wade:

Would there be a product for this model that would at least have information for Namakan/Crane/Kab for strictly navigation. Something that shows an outline of the lakes and islands but not detailed lake information perhaps?

    Thanks!

Lowrance Mapcreate Topo would have a good outline of the lake and should include major islands. It does not offer any depth contours though. Mapcreate also shows excellent road detail, which is a nice bonus.

Be sure your PC is compatible before you purchase any software. More details found here.

I used the MN Lakemaster chip for Kab and Nam in June in a 332c. The buoys are marked on the chip for Nam and crude outlines of the islands are marked too. Marking trails where you travel really help avoid bad areas and are great points of reference when there are no contours. Next time I head up there I will have a Navionics chip however. Anything that can help me eliminate water to cover faster is worth it to me.

I know on Lake Wissota, one of the lakes I fish, the Nav North chip shows islands in a couple of areas where there are none….plus some of the depths are off just 5′ or so…but overall I looked at seveal different lakes and they all looked pretty good to me. I’m sure satalite positions and your position have A LOT to do with your location on your screen and the accuracy.

    Just so I understand.

The MN Lakemaster gives in depth lake detail of Kab but only provides an outline of Namakan and it’s islands?

Should I expect the same result installing this on my LCX15MT?

    Thanks!!!

Now that you guys mentioned the outlines on the Lowrance Lakemaster chip, I think they include mapcreate data for the state of MN on the Lakemaster chip now. So, if one had the Lakemaster chip they would have the outlines for the “unlisted” lakes in MN. It will work on you x-15 and the price is the same as the Mapcreate software. It’s worth a shot.
