Dumb question about MMC cards.

I have an Eagle 320 with a 16MB-MN IA card. When I make a trail or enter a waypoint, are these now on the card? In other words, if I insert this card into a different unit will my personal waypoints and trails be displayed on the second unit?

    Jim,

No. The waypoints, etc. are saved on the unit, not the map card.

You can purchase blank data cards and download data from the unit to the blank card, then transfer data to another compatible unit however. Just don’t try to do it with your map cards. You may write over the map data and lose you maps. Human error is not covered under the warranty either, so be careful. Many map data cards have a safety feature, a lock on the side of the chip, so you can’t mistakenly write over the map data.

I got everything in now and it’s all great. Thanks for the excellent service. Supporting site sponsors is a win win situation.

    Wade,

In reference to your warning about overwriting map data…can you make a backup copy of the map data in case you do overwrite?

No. You can’t copy the map cards. They do have a lock system on the chip so it would be difficult to “accidently” write over the map data. Just something to keep in mind though…
