Just wondering, how do u stow ur kicker when trailering? Do u tilt it up to provide clearance, or leave it down in its normal operating position, and risk scapping the skeg on slopes, or tilt it up and support with a transom saver? If it is the third option, where do u get a support for the kicker?

I always trailer my boat with the kicker motor down. I have not had any issues while doing this.

i have always trailered with mine down. not sure how deep your boat is and how it is set up but with mine the kicker sits on the tramson high enough it is plenty high enough. if you wanted to be sure it wouldn’t hit i would tilt it up about 1/3 of the way. Not sure if you would absolutly have to put the transom saver on only because the kicker is not nearly as heavy. but once again if you want to be more safe i would use one.

I was told by my Dealer to trailer with it down. On my case it is actually higher than the bottom of the trailer or just as high as my Big Motor tilted up in the Transom Saver.

I trailer the motor down with the tiller handle up to avoid it getting bent or damaged.

Thanks all. JUst wondering, how much clearance do I need to make sure that I dun scrape the skeg when going down slopes? U know, some driveways or some roads, eg. the road next to znak’s shop at red wing has quite a bit of slope. Also, the load leading to the boat launch at Dresbach also has one. And in some cases, some driveways or turn ins to gas stations are pretty steep.

    You have a T-8, right?

I also have one. I trailer it resting on the tilt pin. Push it in and lower the motor on it. Set the tension arm tight and go. Over 50,000 trailer miles. No problem.

Not sure where I saw it, but I read somewhere at least 12″ of ground clearance while trailering. Can’t remember where. Yamaha recommends in the manual to”

“The motor should be trailed and stored in the normal running position. If there is insufficient road clearance in this position, then trailer the motor in the tilt position using a motor support device such as a transom saver”.

I only had about 5″ of clearance, so I ended up finding a roller type transom saver that hugs the rounded bracket of my roller trailer. I cut some rubber hose and lined the roller side curve to cushion. Good Luck

Down position. On my rig it has no chance of hitting the ground. Main motor up.

Thanks! Sounds like a great idea to use that pin. Is it that pin on the right side of the motor. Also, what do u mean by tension arm? Thanks!
