Just got a set of Church Walleye Boards with the flag system. They recommend cutting off the “fin” at the back of the board when using the flag system, claiming they’ll run better. Before I go hacking around on these I wanted to check to see if anybody else who uses them has noticed a difference, and if I left it on, is it that much of a problem.

I’ve got a set of Off Shore boards and the Starboard board runs quite a bit further back than the Port board which tracks very nicely to the side. What may be causing this? Does it have anything to do with where the weight is set? Just started to do it this year. Not sure why. The weights look like they are in the same position on both boards. Any ideas?

Gramps–I run the same boards with the flag kits and did not cut off the fins. I have not had a problem, but maybe it makes a difference if one is running bigger cranks.

Curt, thanks for the response. I was beginning to think I was the only one running church boards, even though I see them all over the place. I think I’ll try running them as they are and see what I think. Sometimes I hate on water discovery because it may take a couple of weeks to get back on water to make adjustments. Well, that’s just what I get for being a sometimes angler. I hate it, but going hungry may even be worse. Or not!! I don’t eat that much anyway.

Sorry for the later response Gramps! I run Church boards and feel they are superior to any other on the market. I did not post because, I have never ran them with the tattle flag (until tomorrow ) I will be giving them a shot and thought I would leave the fin on until I ran them . If they seem not to run right I will clip it off, but mine are staying on unitl then. Good luck and let us know what you find out!

Rob, I got out and used my Church Walleye Boards with the flag system today. How about you? I found that they dug in and bounced alot more than they should. Took the flag system off and they ran like a champ. I think I’m gonna get another set to run sans flag, and try cutting the rear fin off of one of these and see how that runs. I even tried moving the weight and that didn’t help much. I also thought that it was much more difficult to move the spring position than it needs to be. What do you think?

Well I had a terrible outing with my Planer boards with Tattle Flags. So much so I stopped using them and went to my regular Church Boards. They ran like crap and it was not that rough out. So has anyone had this problem and does sawing off the fin really help???? Also I could not get the flag thing to work. I could not get the flag to stay up . Anyone run the Church Boards with the Tattle Flags care to help out this GUY?

I am getting in a little late here also, but are you running the same crank or weight on each board. Depending on the drad or weight of a lure, there will be more pull on the board. Just try a Deep Reef Runner once while pulling a spinner with and inline weight on the other. Big difference!

I can help with the Church boars, I run Off Shore

I used to run off shore but since the first time i fished with my fiance and used church boards, i now only run church boards. i think they’re a lot easier to get the boards off when there are big fish on, and they run nicely. we never use flags on them…..have always found them easy to read, even in rough conditions….

I run the off shore boards, I have used a few different brands and they all seem to run the same when they are adjusted correctly. I like the Off shore the best because when you run them in ruff water the brite yellow is MUCH easier to see!!
