Wondering if any of you can help me. I suspect I am doing something dumb, but…

My unit sat all winter in a cabinet. I put fresh batteries in it took it out this morning for the first time (it has been a long spring…). After 4 hours, it still had not acquired any satellites. I kept enabling auto search in the gps setup, but it never found anything. The unit was sitting on a console with an unobstructed view of the sky while I was about 2 miles off the Massachusett’s coast.

This unit went in for service early last fall after it had problems maintaing contact with the memory card. I think they sent me a new unit. I believe I used it once in the fall before it was stored for the winter. I wasn’t 100% sure, but there is a trail from at least one of my last outings still on the unit.

    Help…

    Thanks,
    Dan

Dan, Can you try it again using the DC cigarette power cable? Maybe there’s an issue with the batteries. It obviously should onn take a few minutes to lock on sats. Did it sit somehwere where it could have been damaged over winter?

I’m not sure if it works on handheld units but you might try to reset the unit. Take any memory cards out first. On some units you can press PAGE and POWER at the same time to reset. On others I guess that ZIN and ZOUT plus POWER at the same time will work to reset.

    Thanks Wade.

The unit was in a kitchen cabinet all winter and I don’t think that was the problem. I saw the reset procedure in the manual and I was thinking of trying that. I guess I will. I am sure the batteries were ok, but I will have the cig lighter adapter ready to go.

I reset the unit and it seems to be working again. Thanks
