I’m in the market for a new slop rod setup and was looking for opinions and experiences. I have an old St. Croix Premier 7′ MH, might be good enough?

Also, any tips on a good setup for fishing swim jigs? I’m currently throwing a 6’6″ St. Croix Premier Medium… seems a bit light?

The best rod on the market for slop fishin that I have found is a 7’10” Falcon Cara Frog rod. Its got just enough of a whippy tip to load up on a frog to cast but PLENTY of back bone to hit em hard on a hook set. Its actually the only slop rod I’ve owned that I haven’t broke setting the hook. I know a lot of guys prefer round reels for slop fishin but I use a Curado super free that works just great with 35 or 50 lb. Stealth

i have almost the same rod for that. i have a 7’6″ falcon original H with a old curado on it. you defnitally want that extra length and heavier action to get the fish out of the crap. mine also has somewhat of a whippy tip and i can cast a frog a mile

I think both will work I am a big fan of medium rods for swimming jigs. I seem to have better hook up ratio. On the slop rod I use a medium heavy st croix and 30# braided and a sumo frog do very well with that also.

I’ll have to check out those Falcons… I’ve heard good things. Thanks for the input guys…
