    Tom;
    Did you increase your ping speed?

    Are you running a glass or Aluminum boat?

    If Aluminum make sure that it is not sitting behind any rivet lines.

    Is the transducer too close to the prop wash?

    thanks for the responces. i think that the problem might be the skimmer isn’t deep enough in the water. when i go over 40mph i think that there is turbulance around the transducer. i will be fishing monday and tuesday and will try a few things and see if i can get a better reading…………tom fellegy

    Also remember that the transducer should be tilted forward slightly. If it is not you will lose bottom at higher speeds.

    Can you describe what you mean by “tilted forward” ?
    I lose bottom at high speed with my Eagle too.

    I put my transducer so it is angled forward just slightly. It seems to pick up bottom better at higher speeds. It doesn’t take much, just a couple degrees.
    You can easily tell if you have went too far. Use the locator and when you mark fish if the arc is not complete you have it tilted wrong. If you just see the back half of the arc it is tilted too far back and if you just see the front half of the arc it is tilted too far forward.

    So, the section of the skimmer transducer that sticks straight out off the transom, you tilt that back end(furthest out from the transom) up or down?? Mine is currently level and pointed straight out off the back.

    You want the water to “just” hit the under side of the transducer. Think of it as your holding a garden hose spray parallel to the bottom of the boat. If the transducer was flat or exactly in line with the bottom of the boat the water from the hose would hit the nose of the transducer, not the bottom of the transducer. But if you barely tilt it forward so the bottom face of the transducer is being hit it helps make sure the transducer has solid water against it. And as some one else said above, make sure you aren’t lined up with any irregularities on the bottom of the boat, they cause turbulance which means they put air in the water and your transducer don’t like air. Now you don’t want it tilted so far forward so that it’s looking to far ahead either.
    Hope this doesn’t confuse you.

    i got the 480 figured out, the transducer needed to be lowered a little bit. it is now on the bow, i got a x15 from a friend that up graded to a x25. the x15 is reading great at all speeds. thanks for the help……..tom fellegy
