I am new to planer boarding. What are the pros and cons of flag up or down?

I like useing the flags but sometimes you will get a minni on there and it wont pull the flag down.
Once you get used to running the boards you will be able to tell easily when you have a fish. But I do like the visual when it is wavy out there..

That and if you fish in the dark you can hook little glow sticks on them, it works pretty good for me!!

Not sure if you are talking about the tattle tale flags? Anyway, I don’t have the TT flags. I have the standard flags and always run them up. Makes it easier for both you and other boats to see them. Plus, if you drop a board off the line, makes it easier to see the board in the water when you go back looking for it!

I picked up the kit from church tackle that Lip Ripper had recommended on his earlier post. The flag assembly screws into the back and you can set them as flag up for fish on or down for fish on. I can see how flag up fish on with a glow stick would be good for darkness. Just wondering what others have done and liked or disliked. Also, Anyone run musky baits on these? I can’t find a lure weight limit.

I use the off shore boards and really like them. I have them set up with tattle flags and the good black clips up front. They don’t come loose and are easy to get on and off the line.
Once you get used to running them you can tell pretty easily when there is a fish on. It is also easier to tell if you are running multiple boards off one side when 1 of the boards is dropping back from a fowled crank or fish on.

Takes a little getting used to…unless of course it is a good one…then it is “bobber down” with the planer board….then the blood starts pumpin.

I’ve run 12-16 oz. muskie baits on off shore boards. They fall a little further back but work.

We run with flags down. Makes it easier for dropping boards back (when say you drop the middle board back or inside when you have a fish on the outside board) and running lots of lines and not having to worry about lines getting caught on flags in rough conditions.

    Works either way……

you will LOVE running boards!!!! opens the door to more fish in the boat!
