I fished the Pooh Bear Open yesterday and my boat seems to have a mind of its own.. We were listening to some tunes and at about 9:00 in the morning the radio goes out, well it was very sunny out I figure maybe its just to hot.
So we go on fishing without tunes then they come back on and go back off. About an hour later my x85 up front goes blank, well almost blank you can hardly see a tiny black line going across it. Hmmm… Then the x15 says gps not responding??? wont show depth or speed just zeros.
Then when we are heading to weigh in I come into the no wake zone and the motor wont trim down or up neither will the kicker??
Good way to end the day!

One thing after another none of this stuff happened at the same time there was like an hour break before something new quit working.

And I never had a problem starting the big motor but the kicker wouldnt turn over after the trim quit working.

I’m no mechanic, but it’s sounds like some crossed wires or something like that.

You are running a Ranger with a Merc right?????? I think I know what the problem is. It is a Ranger with a Merc hanging off the back.

Seriously though, I would check for a dead short. Since it is affecting different systems I would check right at the fuse box and right at the battery first.
    Godd luck buddy.

I looked threw every fuse I could find and all were fine.

And now that I think back on Friday My Panther electric steer started getting slow and slower then quit.

And I didnt mention the bait well quit working but the livewell ran perfict.

Have you added any new “toys” lately? I once added something and used self tapping screws, one of them self tapped into a electric wire and caused a short, I found this 6 hours before leaving for Canada.

If you didn’t blow any fuses I would say the short is between the fuse box and the battery.

I know it’s simple and a stupid idea, but I had those gremlins one time and it was my battery connection, cleaned and tightened them and the gremlins went away.

We had some strange problems a week or so ago that turned out to be a loose cable on the battery. Trim would work but not tilt, kicker would start but not the main motor and the electronics were just acting flaky. We had replaced the aerator pump and didn’t get the negative cable tight and it work for a trip before anything showed up. Something to check anyway—and it’s a cheap fix!

My assumption here is that your motor wires (starter cables) are connected to the battery via “one set”.

My other assumption is that you have another “cable set” or maybe 2 “cable sets” that also attach the the same battery.

If that is the case, those “other cable sets” are the culprit. Check your connectors there. That would explain why the big motor works, but your other accessories do not……

Ok now I have cleaned off the battery cables and reattached everything and everything works but the trim on the big motor. Kickers back, gps is back, but when you click the trim switch you can hear it clicking! From the switch on the motor and the switch on the handle.. So from the drivers seat I can hear the motor clicking!!! Its getting power!

    Had two electrical problems recently.

    1) Main power switch got dirty. This caused the voltage to drop on other side. Things would be fine but then the livewell pumps would come on and the voltage dropped enough that depthfinder went blank until it shut off. I took switch apart and cleaned it and all is fine.

    2) had bad solenoid on motor. This caused about everything to stop and motor would not turn. If I walked to motor and gave it a samll kick all would work until next time. This was very intermittent. It would be fine for several trips and the act up again.

My solution for both was to get a new boat!
