Help. I have the hummingbird marine radio and it has the coloured wires in a cable that will communicated with a similar NMEA0183 cable from the Lowrance LMS332c. However, the colours do not match and I am not sure which wire goes to which and how many wires I need to hook up. I tried lowrance website and there is no info there as well as no infor on what wires are what for the LMS332C. Anyone know where I can get some infor and advice? THanks

The 332c has 3 cables that are labled , 2 of these cables are red and black wires…these are for unit power and the other will power your network. The 3rd strand of wires is for your NMEA 0183 communications. There is a blue, yellow, orange and a sheild wire ( unisulated braid). Let’s call your units GPS and RADIO. Hook up the YELLOW transmit wire from GPS to the receive wire on the RADIO. Hook up the SHEILD wire from the GPS to the GROUND wire on the RADIO. Good chance the receivwe wire on tyhe radio is orange.

I already have NMEA2000 nodes which I believe are receiving power already….I think it is the GPS puck. So for this NMEA0183, do I also need to connect the red and black wire to the fuse box? Thanks.

The 332c has a power/data hookup with 3 sets of cables that hookup to 1 connector on the unit, Lowrance calls it a 3-3-4 harness, they are marked with a small silver foil tag, and consist of unit power ( 3 wires red, black, white ) the white isn’t used. The network power ( 3 wires red, black, shield ) is for network power, if you power your network from another point this set is not used just tape off the ends so they don’t short out.The Data cable for NMEA0183 communications (4 wires, blue, yellow, orange, shield). Just check the wires in each cable and tape off the ones you don’t use. Lowrance has this all on line at http://www.lowrance.com/manuals you can download the manuals as a .pdf file or view them over the net.

It all sounds confusing but just identify the wires by color in each cable and it’s all downhill from there.

I too attempted to connect my LMS332C to my Cobra Marine Radio to no avail. I contacted both mfrs and Cobra has been more helpful than Lowrance at this point. I wanted to go with the Lowrance Marine Radio because I felt I could avoid these issues but Lowrance could not verify if there unit was waterproof as Cobra is submersible for I believe its 30 minutes at 3 feet depth…Cobra told me the baud rate setting (4800 for my radio) which can be changed in the Lowrance unit…4800 is the default. There is also several other settings, I think mine has to be RMC…I’m going by memory hear so these numbers and figures may not be correct. To make a long story short according to Cobra this RMC is important and I may have to send my radio into them for a small change of some sort…Haven’t gotten that far yet. Hope your project goes smoother than mine. Good Luck.

My only solution is to get a Lowrance Marine radio. I think the colours are in the manual and are :

    LMS332c- Lowrance Radio
    Shield – yellow and red
    Orange – Orange
    Yellow – Brown

And then go to setup in the GPS and enable NMEA0183
    Works perfect now
