What settings percentage do you typically run on the sonar. I know the depths and water clarity make a difference. But what general number would you say on a lake 15ft of water.

This past weekend running on mille lacs I was in the 50-60 range on sensitivity! Lower number in the shallow water 13-15fow then upwards to 60 when we were either running or in deeper water 20+ fow!!!
Otherwise run your senesitivity on automatic for a little bit if you like the reading check to see its setting and continue to run at that!!!is always and expierment!!!!
May 18, 2006 at 2:09 pm #447327I’m with Cal, Doug…The past few days I have been running pretty steep countours out on LBDN…The one thing I don’t like about the 332C is that you cant access the sensitivity in map/sonar split screen…(please tell me how if you’ve figured that one out)…you need to punch “pages” and return to full sonar screen to tweak the % sensitivity.
Wish I could get the big screen version…$$$May 18, 2006 at 2:32 pm #447347Tom,
I think there is a way to toggle between the split screens and either have the sonar side active so you can edit settings or the map side active so you can edit. I stumbled across this last year and it seemed to be a one button process that I don’t recall right now.
May 18, 2006 at 2:35 pm #447349Hey Tom the reason why you cannot access the sensitivity function is cause your split screen has the map side as your default screen. Ever notice when you hit the ZIN button how your map will only zoom in! Well you can change that feature, I know you can, cause I have done it but can’t remember how! I had my sonar screen as the default screen once and that is how I found out!!! I wanted to zoom in my map screen and it would only zoom in on my sonar side, so it can be done and you can access any of your sonar functions with your sonar screen as the default screen!
Now its just a matter of figuring that out again! I will look at my locator and try to figure it out!!!!
May 18, 2006 at 2:46 pm #447354In split screen to toggle between Map & Sonar to make them active, I ‘m pretty sure you hit a button twice (2 times in a row). I think that button is “Pages”. You will see the Screen outline turn Blue in color I beieve. Then you will be able to edit and change stuff in the active screen.
One night on Mille Lacs about 4 years ago I accidentlaly got the Sonar as the active screen and could not zoom in or out on my Map. Lets just say I was not the little Catholic Boy with my language that night
May 18, 2006 at 2:53 pm #447360Lip is correct- push the pages button twice rapidly and in will tell you if the map screen is active or sonar. That will allowyou to have the sens setting up on sonar at split screen Tom. Sounds like we are all in agreement on where we run as far as %. The manual shows 70% or so. That shows way to much for me to see anything. I am usually at 50 or less.
May 18, 2006 at 5:18 pm #447414Yep, pages button. If you look at the top of the window you can see how it highlights the “active window”. Just change your “active window” and you can use the menu options for those features.
On the sensitivity, it truly is best to play it by ear. I’m generally right where these guys are but change it as needed, depending on water conditions for the most part.
May 23, 2006 at 3:41 am #448357I run my sensitivity on my 332c in manual at all time and adjust for depth. 70-78 in 10 FOW and 78-85 in 20 FOW the reason I disagree with turning it lower is if you run across a school of bait fish as you are running a break-line I don’t believe you will see the bait fish on your screen. I can not count the number of times I have run across a school of bait fish and watch the fish come up off the bottom and grab some bait fish…..them are the black strips you’ll see when the fish is coming up off the bottom(if you stay on top of that school of fish long enough you will see fish come up off bottom). Same affect as if you drop your jig down under you transducer you can see it fall to the bottom then you can watch your self jig it up and down. I’ve followed the bait fish around trolling though them and caught many active fish. You have to get use to looking at the clutter on the top 2 feet of water but once you can get past that I believe you will start seeing these schools of bait fish and be able to stay on top of them. Play with it and run it as high as you can and you will soon be happy about the results.
My 2 cents Whatsa
