Just wondering if a guy can take a part a lower unit (89′ 90hp evinrude) and fix a broken seal–it seems to be leaking, just wondering if that’s something an average guy can do, or if not, any idea on the cost to have it done?

it all depends on your mechanical ability and tools available to you. last fall my brother-in-law had both upper and lower seals replaced and a new water pump installed and it was around $280 range….tom fellegy

I think that I have quite a bit of mechanical ability, but anything to do with the lower unit scares me! I say bring it to a professional who knows what they are doing. Just my $.02 worth.

That way you can spend more time fishing

Special tools are required to remove the thrust bearing nut. It is a form of a “spanner” that is required.

As others have said, if you got a book, access to the tools, and are mechanically inclined……..Jump all over it!!!!!!
