suzuki 150 and trolling

Just a quick ? hoping to get the input I need…..I bought Derek J’s Lund last year and am going to do more trolling this year…My ? is this….Boat has a 150 Suzuki on it and I dont have a kicker motor (yet). I can get the speeds down to about 1.3 on a calm ay by using a drift sock. My concern is whether this method is tough on the motor. Definately wnat to get a kicker, but $ is tight right now. Should i troll like this or switch to plan ‘b’ and fish diferent lakes where im not gonna be tempted to troll?? Thanks guys.

I have never personally used a drift sock to troll, but have read many posts here and as long as your sock is not interefering with water gettting into your motor to cool it, the drift sock does no harm what so ever to the motor. Troll with sock is my opinion, until you can afford a kicker. Trolling is huge in my arsenal and couldn’t live with out it. Good luck
