Just baught my new boat today. It has been a long search for just a simple jon boat but I think I am going to be very happy with it.
Polar kraft MV1675 is the boat with a 20″ transom, all welded. I found a 2002 model with a V rear bench seat. I think this is going to be very nice for spending many hours at a time on the water. The price could not be beat. Now I have to travel to demoines Iowa to pick it up.
Now I get to start rigging on it. First of all I need a motor. If anyone has a good 30 to 40 hp long shaft for sale let me know.
Here is a link to the boat. http://www.godfreymarine.com/cf/gmfs_sportsman.cfm?modelName=mv1675%20
Heading down next weekend to pick it up.

Kevin. I new I was going to get some kind of response like that. I am just not sure about a jet for it yet. This is due to not being familiar with them. Not to many jets running around on the river up here where a guy can pull over and ask how is that running for you. It is good to here the talk on this web site about the jet motors. I will keep it in mind.
Rivereyes. It will have everything.. Eventually. Floor, Ped seats. Lights. Rod holders. On and on. I am looking forward to rigging up my first river rig. Might even paint a bunch of lures on the bottom to help attract the fish in.

Mike, congrats on the new jon boat! The more time I spend in mine, the more I like it.

Question for Kevin, (Or any jet owners)

And this might be a stupid question, but…Can an outboard jet go in reverse?

    Thanks,

    Jon J.

Congratulations, Mike. I bet your very excited!

I’m curious – what’s a rear V seat? Is it something like seats in the port and starboard sides angling in to the center of the stern?

Jon, Jets have a “reverse” gate that directs the flow under the boat. Although the reverse is woeful compared to a prop, it’s better than nothing. Mike, If your gonna stay in the deeper water @ Champlin you won’t have a need (or want a Jet) Just seemed like a perfect boat for a squirt motor.

Hey Gillman, how did you go about putting a floor in the boat? What products did you use, and how did you secure it?

The V seat is the rear bench seat is just shaped like a V pointing towards the rear of the boat. I should be able to sit at an angle now while running and fishing out of the rear of the boat. If you search around on polop krafts web site you will see them on there some of there rigged boats.

Love those Jon Boats. My son is considering a Jon Boat for his 40HP Merc long shaft. We are from Winona, Mn. and are currently looking at Alumacraft Welded with a console and steering plus a trailor. The Polar Craft is intriguing and I was wondering if the delearship you purchased from is near Winona. We can get the ALmincrft for $2,200 plus $500 for the trailor for a total of $2,700. The steering and console are included in the $2,700 price tag and add about $300 to the cost of the boat.

I was wondering what the Polar Craft costs. If you prefer not to disclose on this site just E mail me at [email protected]

    Thanks

Way to go Mike. You have been able to do something that I’ve been thinking about for a while ( buy the boat). I’ve got there pamplets and looked at those boats also. Did you happen to look at Xpress boats also? Have a great time setting it up and hope to see you on the river. Steve

Lienie. I did look at the express boats. They didnt have what I wanted. Nice looking boats anyways. I was looking for a boat with a short front deck and no center bench. This way I can put a floor in it and place ped seats where I want. It will also be nice to not have to step over that center bench. I am going to try to rig up rod straps on one side and I think a cooler is going to be storage for now. Then I can move or remove the cooler when I want.

Yep I know what you mean about those bench seats. If the Lowe model 1655tn didn’t have those darn things I would probably already have a Lowe with a jet. Good idea on the cooler (removeable storage)..For now I will just keep looking but I may run over to Mich. and check out the Wooldridge. It’s just a shame it’s so far away. Oh well I guess its the only way to really check them out. So are you thinking jet or prop. Steve

I am thinking prop but I am in the works with a guy from rochester who has a smaller jet motor and looking for a boat to put it on. We might get together and see how the two work out. It will be nice to get to try out a jet motor without having to go buy one. I will let you know how it works out.

Now that’s the way to do it. Please let us know how it works out for you. What size is the jet motor. I think it would be great not to have to worry about gravel bars, sand bars, logs, wing dams ect ect. Maybe I can make you a swap I’ll provide a place to stay, food, drinks, and you bring the boat on over and well try it out on the Chippewa. The boat landing is only 2 miles from home. Steve

I don’t know if that larger boat will work in the Chippewa and Red Cedar River but your more than welcome to take me up on my offer also. I think the River Pro boats may need a little more water under them but it could be a fun experiment. Most of my fishing on the Chippewa or Red Cedar is by floating with either a 12 or 14 foot jon boat. I tried going upstream with a 7.5 hp prop on my 12 foot boat but it didn’t work to well. So I either float down to a vehicle or just fish certain areas. I do a lot of shore fishing on the Chippewa though. My main reason for wanting a jet boat is to get to areas that arn’t as accessible which is a whole lot of river. The only thing bad about floating down and fishing you need two vehicles, if you arn’t fast at throwing out an anchor you may only get one cast to an area that is holding a lot of fish and anchors are a bummer to throw out at every spot that looks good. (most of the river) Also my small flat bottom is not back friendly. Boy it’s tough getting older. So guy’s if nothing else you could see some pretty nice country, have a good meal with only the best of beverages. Catching fish would be nice but if you ask most anyone that knows me and they’ll say fish usually stop biting when I hit the water. LOL Steve
