Snap on Carpeting

Just wondered what everyone thought about the snap on carpeting that they have out now. I know they have boats with the vinyl flooring and you can add snap on carpeting. Has anyone had any experiences with either the vinyl or snap on carpeting. Thanks

Hey Jarred, some people like the vinyl as you can spray it down with a hose. Personally I like the carpet as it looks better in my opinion. I always wonder if the floor will get slippery when wet from water or mud or sand on a vinyl floor. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks, Bill

How about the snap on carpeting? Does the snaps break at all. Or any one have problems with those. I think it would be neat especially if someone like my 5 year old has a nightcrawler throwing contest in it. Then I can just pull the carpet out and wash it down.

Some of the boat manufacturers are offering this as an option and I’ve seen it in place in a boat but can’t for the life of me recall who had that rig! It looked like the install was very clean and it certainly is a nice deal to not have to beat the heck out of carpet in a boat that you know you’ll be selling in a year or two.

Since I know this is available from C-liner, should I opt to buy a new rig this coming fall I would seriously consider adding this meager expense to the purchase.

I was at a couple boat shows and I did notice that Lund offered this for the Pro-v model boats. I think it is a great idea if you have kids you can remove your carpet to wash it.

    Jarrad,

    Something to consider…

I bought a new boat last year and was planning on getting vinyl flooring. But after looking at a bunch of used boats at Smittys in Lake City I decided vinyl was not for me – vinyl does not look good with screw holes or any kind of cut in it (like from a dropped anchor).

The main reason I did not get the vinyl was because I tend to put a lot of screw holes in the flooring when mounting hold-downs for tackle boxes, dip net, heater, minnow bucket, portable windshield, etc. Then I tend to move things around until they are exactly where I like them. With carpet, my floor looks like new as the screw holes don’t show, but if I had vinyl the floor would look like Swiss cheese.

I was looking for a boat last year. One Lund/C-liner dealer told me that he didn’t have much experiance with snap on carpeting (only been offered for a year at that time).
His concern was that when water made it under the carpeting, would mold form between the snap on carpeting and the vinyl if you didn’t pull it out and dry it each time it gets wet.

I’ve seen several pleasure boats out there with snap in carpet. Way nice for cleaning out…. never once heard anything about molding or rotting….
