I am about to purchase a 2001 honda 75 4stroke tiller. It has close to 300 hours on it. All tests were good. Am I crazy to purchase this motor? Would I be foolish to hope that it would last another 5 years at least? For those familiar with this motor what are your thoughts?

    Thanks

Keep in mind that Honda really is the best 4 stroke out there (and I own a Merc 4 stroke). You should get 5 more years no problem. Treat it good and it will repay you w/ many years of good service…RR

    I had a 1997 Honda 75 tiller.

5 years and not a lick of trouble.

Great motors. Very smooth and quiet and good fuel economy.

300 hours on a 2001 motor isnt very many.

There really isn’t a best 4-stroke there all pretty much the same, for instance Roosters Merc is a Yamaha.
Nobody knows the long term relabilty of 4-strokes but when they do break it’s going to be real expensive to fix and finding a qualified technican to fix your engine will be your biggest concern.

    Good Luck….

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who has had major issues with thier Honda outboard.

If you visit any other fishing sites, read the archives on the different 4 strokes and see how few times Honda problems are discussed.
