I was curious everyone’s opinion on “knock off” lures offered by Bass Pro and especially cabelas. (like their “shad rap”) OH, Berkley too. Does anyone use them? Does anyone like them? OR is it best to stay away?

    Thanks for your input

I like the Cabelas deep runners that are the ReefRunner knock-off. They seem to run true, and at $2.99 a pretty good deal. I don’t care for the colors, but I airbrush my favorite colors on anyway… The Bass Pro lures I have not tried…..

The Berkley lures are not generic, just inexpensive. Some of the Basspro lures are ok, I like their big heavy suspending jerkbaits, but the lips break easily.

The only knock-off lures I stay away from are the deep diving crankbaits. The cheap, generic ones never seem to track very well and I spend too-much time trying to tune them so they run true. I have found that it is well worth the extra couple bucks to get a crankbait that runs true. Norman Lures used to make an inexpensive series of crankbaits that tracked true and caught fish but I haven’t seen any around in the bait shops lately. It would be my guess that Cabelas jointed shad might be made by a very well known tackle company that has their own brand of jointed shad lures. The fish can’t tell the difference.

I use the Cabela’s jointed shad baits and have had no problems. I just purchased several wally-diver type baits from Scheel’s and see that they are made by Matzuo. I haven’t had them in the water yet, but they look like quality lures.

I see that Cabela’s has most colors of their “Rad Shad” on sale right now. Click here to find out more. $1.99 each is a pretty decent price.

I saw they were on sale. That is what prompted the question

    Thanks
