I am in the market for a new fish finder and wanted to get your opinions on the fishfinder/gsp combos sold today. Keeping in mind that I usually fish the St Croix or Mississippi here are a couple of questions.

I can go a couple of ways on this unit. Buy a LMS 320 or an X15 with out the GPS. I have a hand held GPS already and was wondering if the integrated GPS is that much of an advantage.

Since the water is usually 30 feet or less how powerful does the unit need to be and what is overkill.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Tom,

One thing I would suggest is to find software for the areas you fish the most, I’m assuming you’ll want downloadable, detailed info of the areas you fish. This may be a determining factor as all software isn’t compatible with all units.

I really like the new Lowrance Global Map 3200 for a GPS unit or the Eagle Intellimap 320. If I were purchasing right now, I would probably buy the Eagle Fishmark 320 and the Eagle Intellimap 320. These units are backed by some great customer service and offer the quality of Lowrance on more of a “beer budget”. One of the main reasons I recommend two units, if one ever has a problem, you aren’t out both GPS and Sonar.

I really like the x-15, but feel there are some really good buys out this year without having to spend a $1000.00 to have both sonar and gps. Just an opnion though. The Mpls sports show starts this week, I suggest you go check out the Garmin products and the others mentioned above. Good luck!!
