Color vs grayline Lowrance Locators

I currently have a 102c which I have yet to try on the boat. But now am in the need of a second for the bow. Any recomondations? Should I buy a second color? I actually heard a guy at Cabelas last week say he hated the color. Said you can’t see fish on the bottom etc said the colors just blend and make it worthless and to just use like a x125? Does this make sense and which route should I go, thanks!

It seems to me that the guy at Cabela’s was having a bad day. I have an X102c and I’m very, very fond of it. I also am in the process of deciding on a bowmount trolling motor and if I go with one this year I’ve decided to go with a flasher on the bow. I just figure if I’m trolling with the bowmount I’ll be in shallower water and in the weeds etc. I think a flasher has some advantages in those circumstances. Just a thought.

I just put the Lowrance 334C on the dash, and had it out for the first time on wednesday. The detail was great, so not sure why the bad review from the guy. The color really adds to the map reading, too. My grayline unit at the bow is fine for the sonar/fishfinding feature, but I think the color is a plus for the gps feature.

The thoughts rolling around in my head are either incredibly sarcastic or borderline inappropriate. I’ll be nice and concur that he was “having a bad day”. It is St. Patty’s Day and I hear rumor that some people have a few beers on St. Patty’s. Maybe he was looking at the world through a mug of green beer (I knew I couldn’t resist at least one comment).

Please elborate on your thoughts related to a flasher on the bow??? Pros-cons? I’m looking at spending the big bucks on a new color locator/gps unit and I haven’t decided whether to just move my old locator to the bow or go with something new. I fish mostly in the Miss. River. thanks

First of all if you have trouble seeing a fish on the bottom maybe the unit needs some adjusting, second some people just dony know what there looking at, only time on the water can improve that.

Flashers are greast on the bow, if you do most of your fishing from there. holding on a spot while watching your flasher in deep water is the key to catching boat loads of fish. I know a few pro walleye fisherman who use there high tech color units to find the spots and fish then move to the front to pin point their location with there flasher.

I’ve got the X67c, and I have not used it open water yet, but used it a good amount this winter. I had no problem seeing fish right on the bottom with it (and I mean right on the bottom).

I spoke with the folks at Lowrance at the Bass Pro Shop this weekend. Soon there will only be color finders. That could be an indication what markets best.

Several I spoke with really like color units. I’m considering putting an X67c or M68c on the bow.

Sorry guys, Looking back at my previous post it was less than helpful and not at all professional. I will say this I have run color and B&W units. Once you run color, you will never go back to B&W. It really is that good.

For anglers looking for bow units, the X102C would be my #1 choice. After that I’d look at some of the Eagle color units or the Garmin 250C. Humminbird has a new line of color units that look impressive, although I haven’t tried any on the water. I like the Humminbird dual beam transducer for the bow. You can use just about any transom mount trasducer on a trolling motor with the addition of a trolling motor transducer bracket.

Besides depth, power, screen size, and price, what is the difference between the X102c and X67c and why would you choose the X102c? I need a bowmount unit and was going with the X67c or M68c but am open to suggestions.

The main advantages of the x102c are screen size, resolution (480 x 480), and power. The X67C is a solid economical choice though.

I see there is a LMS332c without the GPS its cheaper than the X102c. I cannot find any differences between the two other than the chip. Between the two, wouldn’t you be better off getting the non-GPS LMS332c?

Kevin, You’re correct. There is no reason you couldn’t go that route.

Kevin…good question (I was wondering the same thing).

Wade and/or others…I’ve read a lot of good things about the 332C (with GPS) on the site here, but wondering if I would be happy with looking at split screen at that size. Any opinions from those of you who’ve got on the water experience with the 332C. The other option (more expensive, of course) would be to go with the X102C (or 332C without the GPS) and a a separate GPS. If that were the case, would you recommend the 3500C? The upside of that…I get two full size screens…the down side is that I couldn’t afford to both at the same time. I know they make much larger combination units, but that’s not appealing to me.

    Thanks,

You bet. That’s a great way to go if you can afford to get two separate units. Many, many folks have gone that route. We’ve had several “old” discussions about that option on here in the past and you might be able to find some by searching as well.

I’d suggest the 3500C or the 3600C if you want internal antenna. If you go with the 332C w/o GPS for your sonar, I would go with the 3500C for the fact that it comes with the LGC-2000 GPS antenna which could be connected to your 332C in an “emergency” situation.

I’ve been running the 332c for the last year. I had two of the five inch screens (mono)one on top of the other and I was worried about that also. I also said I’d never spend the money for the color I didn’t feel it would be a benefit. I was wrong. The color is amazing!!! You can see it easily at a 45 degree angle and on the brightest days you have absolutely no problems seeing the screen. The split screen that I thought would be to small really isn’t that bad. You can adjust the screen width easily. I run mine about 1/3 GPS and 2/3 Sonar. Works fine for me and I wear glasses.

I also bought the Ice fishing package for it and use it on the ice works very well on the Ice also, just put it on the flasher mode. Here is a picture of it on the ice.

    Whatsa,

I do the same thing for icefishing. I am curious why you use it in flasher mode. I like all the info from the graph mode and it is at the same speed as the flasher mode.

I was playing around with it that day changing colors, screen widths, if you look in the picture I have 2/3 flasher on the right and 1/3 graph on the left. I was watching to see how tied together. Helps me when I get back on soft water

Thanks for the input guys. I didn’t realize you could control the relative size of the GPS vs. sonar (thought it was one or the other or a 50/50 split). Wade…good tip about going with the 3500C if I choose to go with the 332C w/o GPS.

You should go to there web site and down load the emulator and play around with it. It pretty much like testing out the real thing. Show you all the option and you can try different things.

That’s a good point. Download the emulator and the manual so you can practice different things from the manual on your PC. Works great.

I, like EJ, like the regular sonar on the ice as opposed to the flasher mode. And, I agree that the emulator is great for trying o specific model out.
