GPS Confusion

I’m in the market for a new GPS. I currently have a Garmin Map 76 ram mounted to the right side of the console behind the windshield on a Crestliner. I’m considering a Lowrance 3500C or 3600C. Just a bit confused on the internal vs external antenna thing. Almost made my mind up against the 3600C to opt for the 3500C with the external mount on the back of it. Now I’m second guessing again. If not on the back of the GPS, where is a good place to mount an external antenna so that it’s out in the open enough to pick up a good signal and yet not in the way somewhere or vulnerable to damage. (ie getting stepped on)

I got the 3600C this year. Save yourself the trouble and get the internal.

Any flat surface will work. I usually put mine back by the motor, but I have seen them on the gunnel. Any flat surface with view of the sky. You will need a spot that you can access from underneath, or you can RAM mount it.

If you have a marine band radio, it is a good idea to keep it at least 5 feet away from the ant.

Gramps, My GPS antenna lays in the upper corner of my console but you can put it on a mount if you prefer.

However, I think you should be fine going with the 3600C though. Some of the guys here have been reporting back on the internal antenna and it sounds like it will work on the console just fine. Whichever way you prefer…

I have my 3600c on the dash of my truck for now to see how the internal antenna gps works through the windshield. It takes about a minute to locate your position. Once locked on it works great through the windshield.

    Thanks again Wade!!!!!!
