I think I have read somewhere that these transducers do not work with aluminum boats, only fiberglass. Does anybody know if this is true and how well they preform?

Thru hull transducers will shoot through aluminum without a problem. I have just put them in the back of the boat with a little water and used them like that. Or you can epoxy them for a more permanent situation.

I do not know too much about shoot through hull transducers but I remember chatting with Scott Steiil about them once and he said you lose some sensitivity mounting your transducer that way. I would PM him about it.

You do reduce the effectiveness of the xducer when you shoot through the hull but sometimes it’s necessary. On an aluminum boat I would use that Alumaducer or do with a transom mount ducer if possible.

They shoot through aluminum just fine. Be sure there are no air bubbles below the ducer. For a less permanent installation, silicone works very well and will hold it in place. If there is bubble issues, its much easier to deal with than epoxy.

You will lose some sensitivity. The .190 hull must be on a River Pro? I have been in an RP with a thru hull transducer and they dont pick up the baitfish as well as a standard transom mount ducer, but it seemed to be picking most everything else up. Most boats out there are maybe 1/2 as thick on the hull guage as a RP where I would assume it should read a bit better, not that its bad on the rp.

Dave, was that with an Alumaducer? There is no sensitivity loss with the Alumaducer.
