Well all this talk of oil and the fact I wanted to get out in my boat tommorrow for the first time this year, I decided to change my oil, well I removed my oil plug and to my dismay the only thing I got to come out was some frozen water! I called the service center in my area and they asked about my usage this last fall which consisted of alot of trolling in cold water, according to the service tech he has found a number of motors that run in cold water for extended periods had water in there oil. Needless to say I will not get out on the water tommorrow, I took it in so they could check it over. Mercury says this is normal and wont effect the motor, sounds kinda strange to me……any input???

How many hurs are on it? I have a Yamy 115 and a whie back there was talk of them having oil the water I never had a problem but the Yamy rep. at the sport show says once the initial break in is done they need to be run hard to break in the rings.

Well here is the story, I had a small amount of water in the oil, the drain has an elbow right were the oil comes out and when the water settled to the bottom it freezes right there, lessons learned are if you use your motor alot at trolling speeds in cold tempratures it will accumulate a small amount of water in your oil, I will change my oil at the end of every fall season without question, I’m a little disappointed in this little known fact but as long as the motor produces, I should be OK, it does have a three year warranty so I am well covered.
