I just ordered a couple of these for 39.99 on sale has anyone used these reels? are they any good or should I upgrade to the more expensive Diawas? I will be using these for trolling cranks on walleyes. Nothing heavy duty.

I use these reels, and for the most part they work fine. I have had some issues with the clicker lever on the side of them not working ritgh. It sometimes slips and turns the clicker on, it is really loose, I think something is probably broke in there. But functionally they work fine for what I use them for.
The good news is that the Cabela’s stands behind their product VERY well.
I’ve heard mixed reviews. Please report back on your impressions.

I would suggest going with the Depth Master Gold DMG-15 or the Diawa Sealine SG17 model. If you are serious about trolling at all, this is what I would reccomend. Just my $.02
I got 4 of these reels, and use for lake trout trolling on lake Superior, they are ok, had one had problems with, but sent it back and they sent me out a new one, since then no problems, but I will be upgrading to Daiwia reels in future. But all in all they are not bad!
I had 2 of them, drag didn’t work correctly on either one and I had problems with the lever not engaging to stop the line from going out. These were bought in the spring of 04 and returned the summer of 04. They might be better now??? I bought a few of the Diawa sealine 17’s… No Complaints, great little reels! I will be buying more very soon!

Thanks I think I will upgrade to the Diawas or the gold. I want something that is going to work.
Thanks
Good decision. Otherwise you may go through a similar step of someone previous of getting the Depth Master II reels and then the next year upgrading to Diawa or the Golds. Might as well only buy something once, is the way I like to go
Hey guys first time on,thought I’d put in my .O2. We do lots of trolling on Eerie and we have gone through quite a few of these reels. Ya true Cabela does an awsome job of backing their products. But right now they have their Diawa 17LC on sale for 29.99!!!! I think this sale runs from the 5th-19th of this month.Great price on a much better reel.Oh I think this sale is only at the Prarie DuChein store. Hey this is a GREAT site thanks for all the info!!!!!!!!!
I am sending the cabelas back and I just picked up a Accudepth Diawa for $74 I think I will be happy and if I like i will pick up another. they should last for many years and I matched it with an 8′ trolling rod from St. Croix.
By that price I think you got the Sealines by Diawa! Did you get one with the Line Counter on them? If not, I would suggest doing so (additional $10 I believe). What series Croix rod id you get?
It is the same price as the sealines and is the same according to where I bought it at. It is however a tad smaller which makes it ideal for walleye and yes it has a line counter. There were two lines of accudepth the cheap ones around $40 and the one I got for $75. I bought the premier series croix. 8′ with the tellescoping feature for stroring. Regularly 120 I got it for 84. I think the action was ideal for trolling.
I have never heard of that line of Accudepth, so I have no comment on them. I do know that the Sealine SG17LCA is a new model that is pretty small and perfect for long lining and cranking. The Sealines are a proven warrior. Many of the guides here and other places swear by these reels. They put Hundreds and Hundreds of hours on these things and still give them
up!
That should be a good trolling rod. I have a few telescopic rods which are nice cause, I can still fit them in my rod locker
Good Luck and Happy Fishing!
