Well, everyone wondered if Bombardier was going to sit on their thumbs, and just keep selling the same old technology??? Well, the E-Tec is here. I am putting out an update to my DFI and four stroke articles. It should be done today. If you get the itch…it is up on the Bombardier website.

I love Evinrudes, always have for numerous reasons and I avoid those Black Motors. However, Bombardier is in dire financial straits and there are several rumors floating around regarding them selling their recreational products division.

Anyone have any additional insight into the company’s financial condition.

    Thanks

I doubt this very much as Evinrude cant make the motors fast enough right now.If Bombardier were to sell they would make a huge profit as the company is back on its feet and ready to take over the whole market!

This will be my next motor, if they are as good as I think they are going to be. I guess fortunately, since I’m building a house this year, the motor will have to wait until next year. Of course, a motor like this can’t go on an old boat! I sure hope they are everything that they say!

Anyone know what they are going cost?

    Jamie,

one quick comment regarding Bombardier. The recreational division is not the problem; however, their airplane sales have fallen off dramatically since 9/11 and the rec division is viewed as a cash cow. The company is losing big $$$ and the stock has fallen from $15 per share to $5 per share despite there recent ATV contract with John Deere. Because they are doing so well with the rec division I was going to buy the stock but my research told me to avoid. This is only a small part of there overall business.

I am a retired financial analyst but was hoping you fellows closer to the company would have a bit more insight.

Finally don’t misunderstand me; they have great motors and a 90HP E-TEC would be perfect for my Crestliner Fishhawk. However, I am withholding purchase until the company shows some financial progress.

2fishy,I hear where you are coming from, since my soon to be wife is a broker for UBS Paine Weber.a big part of my move from merc to Evinrude was due to facts.I believe you know alot more about there fianacial situtation than me.As for johnson/eninrude going by/by.I would have a hard time believing it.With the new 7 year warranty I think they plan on staying around for a long while, hope this helps.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Without bad-mouthing the competition I do love the Rude’s and hope Bombadier does well.

I hope they make it too but as for the warranty, I owned a 99 Ficht 115 and had a loooooong factory warranty on it.
When they folded, so did my warranty…left me totally out to dry, which is why I dumped it and
now own 3 Yamaha’s and not one Evinrude. I read all there was to read last night on this new line
and it sure sounds interesting…and the profiles are slim (nice). Time will tell…..

after watching my dad’s evinrude fict 115 burn up 3 times (last time out of warranty) It will be a tough sell to convince me away from Yamaha right now.

I forgot to mention the 14 times it was in for service the first year….and never did get fixed.
